Ingredient
    For the Rolls
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • For the Topping
  • 2 tsp melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp honey (optional)
Instructions
  1. SOFT AND BUTTERY YEAST ROLLS
    1. Prepare the Milk Mixture: In a small saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it is warm but not hot (about 110°F or 43°C). Remove from heat and add the unsalted butter, stirring until melted. Stir in the granulated sugar. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, to around 100°F (38°C), which is the optimal temperature for activating the yeast.
    2. Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, sprinkle the active dry yeast over the warm milk mixture. Allow it to settle for five to ten minutes, or until foamy. This suggests that the yeast is prepared and active.
    3. Combine Ingredients: Once the yeast is activated, add the eggs to the mixture and whisk well. Gradually add 2 cups of flour and the salt, mixing until combined. Continue adding the remaining flour, one cup at a time, until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl and forms a soft, elastic dough.
    4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. Add a small amount of extra flour as needed if the dough is too sticky.
    5. First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it once to coat the top with oil. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
    6. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release excess air. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan, spacing them close together.
    7. Second Rise: Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for an additional 30 minutes, or until they have puffed up and are touching each other.
    8. Preheat Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    9. Bake the Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.
    10. Finish with Butter: Take the rolls out of the oven and quickly spread melted butter over the tops. If desired, drizzle with honey for an extra touch of sweetness. Serve warm.

Note
  1. Dough Consistency: If the dough feels too sticky, add a bit more flour until it is manageable. Conversely, if it is too dry, add a small amount of milk, one tablespoon at a time.
  2. Yeast Activation: Make sure the milk mixture is not too hot, as this can kill the yeast. If you don’t have a thermometer, test the milk with your finger—it should feel comfortably warm.
  3. Fluffier Rolls: For extra fluffy rolls, you can let the dough rise for a bit longer. Just make sure not to over-proof, as this can affect the texture.
  4. Make-Ahead Tips: You can prepare the dough ahead of time. Once the rolls are shaped, cover and chill for the entire night. Let them come to room temperature and rise for about 1 hour before baking.
  5. Freezing: These rolls freeze well. After baking, let them cool completely, then freeze in a zip-top bag or airtight container. Reheat in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350°F (175°C) before serving.
  6. Variations: For a savory twist, add herbs like rosemary or thyme to the dough. You can also sprinkle grated cheese on top before baking for a cheesy crust.

Enjoy these Soft and Buttery Yeast Rolls as a comforting addition to any meal. Their tender texture and rich flavor will make them a standout favorite at your table!
